Ford builds tough trucks with tough engines designed to last for generations. In 1997, a major redesign made the F-150 a must-have for a safe and powerful driving experience.
For the first time since 1980, this redesign expanded the interior space and had rounder styling. The tenth generation of Ford F-150 engines, from 2004 to 2008, was available in a 4.2-liter OHV Essex V6, Triton 4.6-liter SOHC V8, and Triton 5.4-liter SOHC V8.
These engines remained a hallmark of Ford power through the eleventh generation, from 2004 to 2008 however; in 2009 Ford’s Essex plant closed, which required the 4.2-liter V6 to be dropped.
Ford Motor Company introduced a new selection of engines—the 2.7L and 3.7L V6 and optional direct-injection 3.5L EcoBoost V6. In addition, the V8s were replaced by the 5.0L and 6.2L V8 engines.
